Welcome to Light It Up

A Christmas Devotional and Reading Plan

We are so excited you picked this up! For the next 23 days, we will collectively take a pause and stop to consider light, and the ways it represents Christ and his Church throughout the scriptures. The hope is that you will find 10 minutes each day of the Christmas season to pause with us, learn through God’s Word, his Light, and to pray. Connect with God - He’s definitely worth the pause during the hustle and bustle!

These devotional readings were made by us and for us! We’re not professionals here- just faithful people willing to use what we have- our learning, experience, and stories to lead anyone and everyone into a life-changing relationship with Jesus! Thank you to each writer who contributed to this devotional.

How to Use:

  • If you already have a rhythm of engaging God’s Word daily, consider adding this devotional to the beginning or end of your quiet time with God each day. It’s about 5-10 minutes, and then you’ll have a chance to connect with others from The Hills about the thoughts presented each day!

  • If you’re ready to dive all in on this reading plan as your scripture intake for the next few weeks, consider adding a S.O.A.P journal and/or journal response time to the questions for consideration that end each day’s reading.

  • Invite someone to read with you! This is a great way to engage a neighbor, friend, family member that you only see around the holiday. Set a group text or email chain and get to sharing about what God is doing.

SOAP Bible Study Method

In a journal, respond to the following prompts:

S: Scripture - which word or phrase or idea stuck out to you from today’s Bible reading? Write it down.

O: Obserservation - What do you think about this verse or word or phrase? What does God seem to be revealing through it? What context do you need to consider?

A: Application - How do you apply this truth to your life? Are there areas in your life that do not align with what you learned today? What needs to change?

P: Prayer - Write a prayer to God addressing what you’ve journaled so far. Pray for someone who could use this truth. Praise God for his Word and using it in your life to teach you and change you!

If something you read in one these devotional impacts you and encourages your faith, share that with someone - the author of the devotional, a friend, on social media - let’s light up our spaces with the gospel!
